Free speech? Five shilling
In 1939 and 1940 defeatism was very much in the air in Britain and the goverment acted to stamp it out. This resulted in some absourd incidents.
One evening in a London public house a woman overheard what she believed were pro-German opinions expressed by a group of men. She reprtedthe incident to a policeman and a man was arrested. Whet had apparently happend was this: Three men were drinking togetherand a French soldier lifted his glass and said, ´Vive La France,` while another soldier aded, ´Vive L´Angleterre.`An Englishman nearby joined in with, `To hell with Hitler.`
The woman whistle-blower hat told the policeman, ´That`s him. I heard him say "Heil Hitler!" ` When confronted with the evidence, the Englishman, somewhat the worse for drinking, denied the accusation, abused the woman and became so angry that he was eventually arrested and charged with insulting words and behavior. He was fined five shillings by the magistrate.
So das ist jetzt der letzte Artikel für diese Kategorie. Und zeig ziemlich gut warum ich sie rauswerfe - die meisten Dinge die es gibt die irgenwie in Geschichtsbüchern fehlen aber vielleicht für viele spannender machen würde gehören zur Nazi-Zeit.... Das ist irgendwie Schade aber nun gut. Ich habe aber kein Interesse dran sowas weiterihn auf meinen Blog zu packen. Ich bin stolz drauf Deutsch zu sein, denn die Geschichte kann man sowieso nicht ändern und wie Deutschland jetzt zu anderen ist ist ja mal echt nicht schlecht.
