In 1939 during the evacuation of children from the big cities one country woman tried to persuade her evacuee child to wash himself. As she said, ´If you will wash your hands I will give you a penny, and if you wash your face as well I will give you tuppence.` The boy replied, ´Corblimey! I might as well have a whole bath ans make me fortune.`
